"Good to see you out of the house, Jules. But if you're looking for your siblings, I sent them on their way this morning just before lunch and I haven't seen them since." Mali said as she continued to sweep off the stoop of the Inn. She was still rather irritated with Jules and was rather pleased with herself over the fact she hadn't thrown a title in there as well.

Jules gave a faint nod and leaned back in his chair. "Thank you," he said quietly. "Now if I could get them to behave for me the way they behave for you, my sister and I wouldn't be going crazy."

"If you put a little effort into it instead of wasting your time moping on how useless you think you are. You wouldn't go crazy."

"Brooding, not moping," he corrected affectionately. "Besides, I've been doing things. I started carving again. And I finished a present for you."

"And the difference between the two words is what?" Mali said trying to stay mad at him but damn it..... she found it virtually impossible to stay mad at him when he used that crooked little smile he was so fond of. "Carving?"

He nodded. "This isn't the present, mind you. It's still at home since it's a bit heavy for me to carry," he said as he pulled out a wooden doll for her, skillfully crafted to resemble her.

"Jules, just what are you up to?" Mali asked as she finally gave up the last of her pretenses of being mad and put the broom down to see what he was showing her. "You did this from memory?" Mali asked a little shocked as she held the doll.

He nodded. "I figured you'd might like it. You did say you always wanted a doll as a little girl that looked like you instead of Lady.. so it's a bit late but..." he laughed quietly. "As for the real present... It's a hope chest." OOC: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hope_chest

"You remembered my excuse for not wanting to play 'dolls' with the other girls? And you built me a hope chest?" Mali asked, now she was well and truely flabergasted, she'd always simply assumed that he put up with her and liked her because she was his sister's friend.

Jules nodded. "Yes. I did it because I love you, Mali."

"But you've always said you'd never fall in love. Something about refusing to, and I quote, tie someone down to that chair." Mali said, feeling someone what in a daze.

"You're the only one who doesn't see the chair, Mali."

"So you love me because I see what hasn't changed. Even before the war you were more then a set of legs, Jules." Mali said, getting her wits about her again, and now wondering if this was another one of his tricks. He'd been remarkably behaved since Strongheart was not longer around to egg him on so Jules was more then due for one.
